Before the Eyecons became a signature series… before the public exhibitions, the live painting sessions, and the collectors' walls… there was this—“Oil Eyecon.” A single eye. A self-portrait. A quiet beginning.
Created during one of Peter Bogdanov’s earliest painting classes, Oil Eyecon began as a traditional self-portrait assignment. But true to Peter’s form, what emerged was anything but traditional. Rather than painting a whole face, he zeroed in on a single, powerful detail—the eye. That window to the soul. That eternal symbol of vision, awareness, and the unspoken.
The result was startling. Emotional. Raw. It spoke louder than any full likeness ever could. This eye didn’t just look—it witnessed. It remembered. It pulsed with story. And in that moment, something clicked.
That’s how it started—the first of what would become a deeply personal and ever-expanding universe of Eyecon paintings. Each one different, but all connected by the seed planted here.
